Atheneum Art Museum

The Atheneum Art Museum was opened back in 1887, and today is the largest collection of art in Finland. Its collection consists of Finnish art from the 1750s-1960s, as well as western art from the 1800s to 1950s.

Amos Anderson Art Museum

The Amos Anderson Art Museum has been around since 1965, and is situated in the city center of Helsinki. The building used to be the home of Amos Anderson, a man who owned several printing houses and was a fan of art and theater. The upper floors of the building are a museum, and the top is an auditorium and exhibition room. Many of the items on display are of 20th century Finnish art, and some of the older pieces were from Amos Anderson’s personal collection.

National Museum of Finland

The National Museum of Finland is a display of Finnish history from the Stone Age through today, and is situated in a beautiful National Romantic building . The museum is sectioned off into six parts. The Prehistory section shows a variety of archaeology from around Finland, and the Realm part explains Finnish culture from the Middle Ages through the early 20th century. The Land and Its People shows visitors what rural life was like in Finland before the country was industrialized. It is a great institution for people who want to understand Finnish heritage.

Didrichsen Art Museum

The Didrichsen Art Museum is full of 20th century Finnish art, as well as some international contemporary art pieces by Miro, Moore, Picasso, Arp and others. The basement is full of Pre-Columbian art from the Americas, and Oriental Art from Asia and the Middle East. They also hold rotating exhibits. It was all brought together by art collectors Marie-Louise and Gunnar Didrichsen.

The Finnish Museum of Natural History is operated under the University of Helsinki, and is a research center and national museum that has materials from all around the world. Its specimens come from sciences like botany, zoology, geology and paleontology. One of the highlights is the vast array of interesting taxidermy.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma is situated in the heart of Helsinki. It offers various exhibitions on contemporary art from all over the world, some of which include paintings, installations and photographs. This museum is situated in an interesting modern art architectural complex, which is just as worth seeing as anything on display.
