A good video game flick is a rare commodity. Anyone who has played the Resident Evil series knows that the movies utterly failed at doing justice to the video game franchise. House of the Dead (2003)
House of the Dead was Uwe Boll’s first and possibly, worst venture into what would later become a persistent vendetta against video games. The movie is a horrible mix of teens, phony-looking zombies, a cliché plot and bad acting. IMDB rating: 2.0
Alone in the Dark (2005)
Poor acting, a weak script and an exceptionally bland storyline – you name it, Alone in the Dark has it. Needless to say, Uwe Boll really did a number on the game’s fans as is his wont. IMDB rating: 2.2
Super Mario Bros (1993)
A lot of children might label this movie as passable and for good reason. It hurts a Mario fan to admit, but the movie could’ve been much worse. Still, what the point in making a movie named after one of the most popular video-game franchises of all time only to include little or no elements of the original storyline? Why not just name it Super Plumber Bros? IMDB rating: 3.8
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)
The first Mortal Kombat movie wasn’t all that bad. The sequel, however, owing to cheesy dialogue and special effects that would make one cringe, was the definition of awkward. IMDB rating: 3.2
Double Dragon (1994)
Double Dragon was a cracking slap to the face for all fans of the game franchise. Only a few characters from the game were incorporated into the movie, including the two main characters in blue and red, Jimmy and Billy Lee – alleged bad ass Kung-Fu fighters who seemed to be running scared through most of the movie. IMDB rating: 3.3
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)
The original Street Fighter movie has had more than its fair share of bashing, and it wasn’t all that bad. The same, however, cannot be said for The Legend of Chun-Li, which has more guns in it than kicks and punches. At least the original stayed somewhat true to the theme of the game – street fighting. IMDB rating: 3.8
BloodRayne (2005)
Another Uwe Boll movie, another good gameput to shame. Even hot Rayne in a tight leather outfit couldn’t help viewers overlook the poor plot and equally awful acting in the movie. IMDB rating: 2.7
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007)
Three strikes just aren’t enough for some people. Uwe Boll is one of those willful people. Predictably, casting Jason Statham couldn’t save Boll’s Lord of the Rings rip-off from an onslaught of rotten tomatoes. Quoting James Berardinelli’s review of the Dungeon Siege flick on Reelviews, “In the Name of the King is a second-rate regurgitation of The Lord of the Rings”. IMDB rating: 3.8
Wing Commander (1999)
Wing Commander is as bland and uninteresting a sci-fi movie as they come. However, it’s not the worst one out there. 1 hour and 40 minutes of spaceships dodging asteroids and shooting at each other was expected given the genre of the game. It would have helped, however, if the storyline and action wasn’t so bland and uninteresting. IMDB rating: 3.7
DOA: Dead or Alive (2006)
Probably the only reason this movie wasn’t bashed as hard as the rest is that it incorporates hot chicks in scarce garments indulging in catfights. As far as the fight scenes and plot are concerned, this movie is probably the best on this list. But rest assured, it doesn’t get any better than that. IMDB rating: 4.9
