Five-Flower Lake – Multi-Colored with Immersed Trunks

Also known as the Wuhua Hai, this lake is in the Jiuzhaigon National Park of China underneath the Panda Lake and over the Pearl Shoal waterfall. It is a shallow watered, multi-colored water pool filled with tree trunks. The colors range from yellow to green to blue. The reason that you can see these trunks at its bottom is its crystal clear water.

Lake Baikal – Deepest and Most Ancient

Known as the Blue Eye of Siberia in Russia, it is the largest freshwater lake that outweighs the combined water of all the North American great lakes. Formed in the old rift valley, the lake has a crescent shape and is the site where there is over thousand of plant species and animals of which over 60 percent is not seen anywhere else. Unbelievably, the lake is some 25 million years old and is now a World Heritage site.

Crater Lake – Holder of the Clearest Waters

No where else you will find clear waters on Earth except in this caldera lake in Oregon. It is mystical due to its quite unusual aspects out of which one is that it is without any inlets or tributaries. In fact, within the lake, a deep caldera is seen that is quite deep formed around 4th century B.C. due to the crumbling of volcanic Mount Mazama. It is the deepest lake in the nation and the ninth deepest on the planet.

Plitvice Lakes – 16 Lakes with Attracting Waterfalls

Situated in Croatia, these are a complex of 16 lakes that are interlaced via mesmerizing waterfalls amidst a deep forest. What attracts visitors here is the color of the lakes varying from azure, green, grey, and to blue; which keep on changing depending on the mineral deposits, angle of sunlight, and marine creatures. One can also see deer, bears, wolves, boars, and rare birds. Even this is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Red Lagoon – With White and Red Fusion

This is the Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon) in the southwest of the Bolivian altiplano near Chile border. The waters here are shallow, but salty and appear to be red amidst the borax islands, which are white in color. The red color of the waters is the result of the red sediments and pigmentation of algae.

This is the holder of some 41 islands on the boundary of Bolivia and Peru and has unmatchable beauty. Its location above the sea level is such that the lake is regarded as the most prominent crossable one on the planet. The lakes waters come from rainfall and from the nearby glaciers. Spiritually, it is considered as the origin of the Incas.

Caspian Sea – Largest on Earth

This is considered as the largest inland water body whose surface area is more than the combination of other six lakes. The lake is the holder of 40 percent of the lacustrine waters found on the planet.

Located in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park in Dominica, this is actually a hole in the Earth’s ground on the Caribbean. Most of its waters are greyish-blue in color and are the covered with a layer of vapor.

Lake Balkhash – Fresh + Salty

The Lake Balkhash is in the southeast of Kazakhstan and is famous for its unusual feature – the 50 percent of its west is full of fresh water; whereas, the eastern half is the home of saline waters. Another feature is that it is shrinking day by day as the river that feeds it with water is changing its course. It is the second largest in Central Asia.

This is the largest thermal lake on Earth in Hungary whose flow is quite strong. It is said that the lake is refilled almost each day whose waters posses medicinal properties. The lake’s another feature is its unique fauna and flora – all thanks to the climate and water’s chemical and a bit radioactive contents of oxygen and low sulphuric compounds.

  1. My favorite is Lake Baikal, is one of the deepest and the largest freshwater lake amongst all Lakes in the world , However it contains less than one third of the water as the Caspian Sea. I've been there and enjoyed a lot.
